Last week in preparation for Lent, children were exploring why we have Pancake Day, also known as Shrove Tuesday. They discovered that it's called Shrove, as years ago people would empty their kitchen cupboards of all the good foods and use them the to make pancakes. Ash Wednesday is a day of fasting and the beginning of Lent when people sometimes give up something they really like for example chocolate or crisps.Sometimes we take on something extra like going to Mass more or saying prayers, helping our parents around the house.
The Friends of St Mary's invited us to their Pancake cafe, where we enjoyed some pancakes, choosing different toppings. We had a lovely time.
Thank you.
