St Mary's School

The children are at the heart of everything we do.

Year 6 enjoyed a fascinating day yesterday bringing Science and Religion together.

The ‘God and the Big Bang’ sessions was organised and delivered with St Thomas’ Church of England Primary School.

The day started with a talk from Dr Matt Prichard, a Science Magician and Curator of Wonder. This was followed by three workshops with Suzanne Kalka and Sarah Morning. The sessions looked at how the world has evolved through exploring fossils and how science can test and break the rules. The occurring theme throughout all the sessions what how the science links to faith and the creation story from the bible.

The day ended with a question and answer session where the children amazed us with the insightful questions they had developed throughout the day.

Examples of the children’s questions -

  • How was god created?
  • Does Science have a limit?
  • Does climate change have anything to do with the universe?
  • What would happen if there was another big bang?
  • Who created science?
  • Why was God made and why were we made?
  • Did God create Science and the rules of Science?
  • How did God create the Earth in 6 days?
  • How do things live and have life?
  • Do volcanoes represent mini Big Bangs?
  • Does the Earth grow?
  • Is Science bringing us closer or further away from God?

The children were all fully engaged in all activities and discussions throughout the day. Thank you to the God and the Big Bang team for coming over to the Isle of Man to work with us and to those who organised the day.
