This is the 4th step eco club need to accomplish to get their Eco Schools green Flag.
In this step we have been looking at how Eco and Global learning is used within our curriculum.
In Year 5 / 6 the Explore Project linked to sustainability. Within this they looked at how different products can be recycled both on the Isle of Man and across the world. They looked at the positive and negative impacts of recycling and explored alternatives to recycling. They discussed and compared the impact on climate change, deforestation and pollution.
They fished their project with a debate and a well informed piece of persuasive writing titled 'Is recycling always the best option?'
Here's a sample of the writing they did. Year_5_6_Eco_schools.pdf
In Year 3/4 the Explore Project was linked to Food around the world. Within this they did a lot of work on where different foods come from locally and around the world and the impact of this travel on the environment. They discussed the meaning of fair-trade, the impact in has on the consumer and the producers (farmers). To do this they looked at many different sources and stories from different fair-trade and non fair-trade farmers. The attached piece of work us their final piece, consolidating their understanding. They also completed homework tasks related to the work they had done on Fair-trade
