Our science topic this half term is Rocks. On May 1st, Year 3 visited the Manx Museum and discovered fascinating information about the rocks on the Isle of Man! We learned that Peel Castle is constructed from sandstone, while Castle Rushen is built from limestone. If you travel south to Scarlett, you can observe volcanic rock - basalt!
We also explored ancient fossils, some millions of years old, using microscopes to get a closer look. We also conducted a fair test to determine which rocks are permeable (allow water to pass through) and which are impermeable (do not allow water to pass through). Back at school, we will continue our exploration of rocks and get our hands dirty investigating soil!
