Exploring Poetry Through Nature’s Hidden Wonders
Recently during Guided Reading, our children have been diving into the magical world of poetry, inspired by The Book of Spells by Robert Macfarlane and Jackie Morris. This beautiful book celebrates creatures and elements of nature that are often overlooked - things that might not seem striking at first glance but reveal their own unique beauty when we look closer.
Taking inspiration from this idea, the children explored other lesser-known animals and wrote their own poems about them. Along the way, we studied poetic techniques such as rhyme, repetition, alliteration, and even the use of questions to make poems more intriguing. The children then tried to weave some of these styles into their own writing.
The results have been amazing - creative, thoughtful, and full of wonder! We’re so proud of how they’ve embraced the challenge and discovered the hidden beauty in the world around them.
Have a read of our poems!
