Our Trip to Douglas Fire Station!
Last Wednesday, Year 1 had an amazing trip to Douglas Fire Station as part of our Discover Project this term, where we have been learning all about The Great Fire of London!
During our visit, the firefighters showed us the modern equipment they use to fight fires today and we compared it to the leather buckets, fire hooks and water squirters that people used in 1666. We were amazed at how much firefighting has changed since the Great Fire!
We even got to:
- Meet real firefighters and learn about their important job
- See fire engines up close and sit inside one!
- Discover how firefighting equipment has changed since the time of the Great Fire
- Have a go at using a fire hose to spray water—so much fun!
The children were full of fantastic questions and loved spotting the differences between firefighting in 1666 and today. We all agree that leather buckets and fire hooks wouldn’t be as helpful as fire engines and hoses!
A huge thank you to the firefighters at Douglas Fire Station for teaching us so much and making our trip so exciting.
What a brilliant way to bring our learning to life!
