Last week as part of our preparation for the season of Lent, the children were exploring why we have Pancake day, or Shrove Tuesday, as it also known. They discovered that people in the past used all the good ingredients from their cupboards and fridges in readiness for Ash Wednesday which is a day of fasting. Then during the next 40 days of Lent people would give up chocolate, sweets, crisps. (all the treat foods) So they then made Pancakes to use up these things on Pancake Tuesday!
During Lent, not only do we sometimes gives things up but we could try to take something extra on, for example, going to Mass more, saying our prayers, helping our parents more.
The Friends of St Mary's kindly invited us to their Pancake Cafe where we had delicious pancakes and our favourite toppings .
Thanks so much!
