Last week, we welcomed winter into our classroom with lots of exciting activities! Our focus story was Goodbye Autumn, Hello Winter, which helped us talk about the changes we see in nature when the weather turns colder. We noticed bare trees, frosty mornings, and thought about how animals keep warm in winter.
We had lots of fun challenges:
- Maths: We drew around different shapes to make pictures. We learned how to select, rotate, and move shapes to create our own designs.
- Writing: We practiced spelling CVC words on mugs, listening carefully to the sounds and finding the right letters.
- Creative: We painted beautiful winter snowstorms using different artistic effects to show swirling snow and icy skies.
- Construction: We built habitats to keep animals warm in winter, thinking about which materials would help them stay cozy.
- Play Dough: Our gingerbread men bakery was very busy! We rolled, shaped, and decorated our play dough creations.
- Tuff Tray: We built an igloo using sugar cubes and polystyrene. We also used tweezers to place pom-poms onto a snowflake, which was great for our fine motor skills.
- Role Play: Our hot chocolate café was open for business! We enjoyed pretending to make and serve warm drinks.
To make the week even more magical, we had a very special visitor—Santa came to read us a story!
