This week in Reception our learning focus was “My Community”, inspired by our story A Superhero Like You. We talked about how everyday people who help us are real-life superheroes.
In Maths, the children enjoyed a challenge to make 10 monsters using Numicon, exploring number bonds and counting in a fun, hands-on way.
For our Writing Challenge, we wrote simple sentences about people who help us in the community, such as doctors, builders, firefighters and shop workers.
Our Creative Challenge was to draw our favourite place in the community, with children sharing why these places are special to them.
In Construction, we became builders, engineers and road workers, working together to design and build using a range of resources. Our role play area turned into a Post Office, where children practised taking turns, writing letters and pretending to post them. The tuff trayactivity focused on threading, helping to develop fine motor skills.
We also went on a walk around our local community, spotting familiar places and talking about the people who help us every day.
To finish the week, we enjoyed a special animal-themed PE lesson to celebrate David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, moving like different animals and learning about caring for our planet.
Another busy and exciting week of learning in Reception!
