This week in Reception we have been learning all about our island! Our story of the week was “How the Manx Cat Lost Its Tail,” from our book of Manx Fairy Tales, which helped us explore the Isle of Man and what makes it special.
We also learned about the Rights of the Child, focusing on our right to play and our right to be cared for. We talked about what these rights mean and how important they are for everyone.
In maths, we had fun using mirrors to make doubles for numbers 1–5. We enjoyed spotting how numbers change when reflected!
For our writing challenge, we drew pictures showing our right to play and be cared for, and wrote simple sentences to explain our ideas.
Our creative challenge was to draw or make the Isle of Man flag, and we loved using different materials to design it.
In construction, we built special places from our island, including St Mary’s Church and the steam train. We showed great teamwork and imagination!
Our role play area became a newsroom, where we took turns reporting the weather like real presenters.
In the tuff tray, we practised forming our letters carefully to improve our handwriting.
We have had a fantastic week full of learning, creativity, and fun!
